I know, I know, I’ve slipped back into my non-blogging habits.  I could whine and say how hard it is to find something to write and blah, blah, blah, but the truth is I try to keep this blog pretty light-hearted and, yes, superficial, and sometimes it’s hard to be fun or funny or witty or just plain shallow.  Part of the fun of blogging is getting to pick and choose what we share, and I really don’t have much interest in baring my soul to anyone who may have an internet connection and five spare minutes.  Soul-baring is for friends and family and people who have earned the right to know me – a lot of blog-buddies are in that group, but since this is a wide-open blog I save my sharing for the comment sections on their blogs.  SO, that said, right now I’m deep in the nether regions of tax season plus doing pretty hard-core workouts four nights a week after work, and trying to keep the house clean, the laundry caught up, and put home-cooked dinner on the table at least six nights a week, which means doing lots of cleaning, laundry, and cooking on weekends.  My spare time, such as it is at the moment, is spent either knitting, dreaming of knitting, leafing through patterns and trying to figure out what to knit (Christmas is right around the corner and lots of gifts on the list this year are still in the ‘ball of yarn’ stage), or voraciously reading mindless mystery, sci-fi, or fantasy books (when the light is too low to knit – thank the Lord for my Kindle Fire).

I’d love to blog about the knitting, or my ideas for same, but since a lot of it is gift-related I can’t risk revealing it.  I’d also love to post pics of the outcome of my massive spring cleaning and reorganization project, but… um… well, it was 95% done there for a while, then things got a bit messy again, so I have to revisit bits of it and get everything back in order.  I got the closets done and the furniture moving between living room and spare rooms done, and we finally (just a couple of weeks ago) finished the redesign in the living room, but there’s a pile of random stuff on the bed in the guest room now that has to be dealt with before picture-taking is possible.  I can show you a couple of pics of the newly-redone living room, though:

Most of what’s in the room we already had, we just moved it around – we moved a fabric loveseat to the guest room and one of the red chairs in from the guest room.  We had to buy the rug and two chairs – one red chair (to match the one we already had) and the patterned chair, which is a recliner (something I’ve always wanted in the living room) – but that’s pretty much it.  The lamps, loveseat, occasional tables, and TV/stand (not shown here) we already had, so I’m pretty pleased that we were able to completely redesign the room with relatively minimal cash outflow.  The biggest change – and what made the whole room flow better and enabled us to create a different layout and better seating arrangement – was moving the TV from the left of the fireplace (the corner by the window, where the red chairs are) to the right of the fireplace, something we couldn’t have done when we originally built the house because there used to be a window to the right of the fireplace.  The window came out when we added a garage and bonus room a few years ago, but we didn’t think of moving the TV until pretty recently, since the wiring was already in place in the original location.  Thankfully, one of TBear’s friends works for the cable company and was able to come out on a weekend and move all the connections for a beer and a song.

At any rate, it’s the first room you see when you come into the house, and the focal point for the downstairs as a whole, so we’re really pleased with how it came together.  We have plenty of seating now and the layout and color scheme are very warm and welcoming.  The reds and earth tones really flow nicely into the dining room, as well, so there is more of a sense of continuity between the rooms now.  I know I’ve got some “before” pics somewhere, but those will have to wait for another day.
