Won, He Has!

YES!  Yoda is now officially the new Star Wars stamp.  (As if any other outcome were even conceivable).

In other news – we went to Sonfest at Carowinds this weekend, and I must say, Jars of Clay, Jeremy Camp, and Newsboys ‘rocked it out the box’, in the oft-spoken words of Randy Jackson.  (Actually, I have no idea what he actually says, but I know it’s something about a box.  Feel free to correct me in the comments section.  I am a comment-piggy.)

TBear valiantly tried to win me a giant stuffed penguin, but, alas, it was not to be.  At $10 for three tries, the rope ladder betrayed him and threw him to the ground before he got the hang of it.  I am positive that given another $20, he would have succeeded in getting to the top and ringing the bell, but is a stuffed penguin really worth $30?  We decided that it was not, especially given that we spent about $40 additional dollars during the day for a sunglass strap ($2.25), two hot dogs (sans bun, $5.25 each), a turkey leg ($8), four drinks (roughly $3.75 each), and two bottles of water ($3.50 each).  I’m not actually sure where the other $5 or so went.  Maybe I forgot to count a drink…  Ariel’s lunch was as follows, from Chick-fil-a – $3.99 for 8 nuggets, $2.99 for fries, and $3.79 for a coke.  And did I mention the $10 parking fee, despite that fact that we were staying in the Carowinds campground?  Still, we had a blast.  It was like being in a MasterCard commercial – “$300 for tickets, $100 for a campsite, $200 for gas, $100 for meals – flipping upside down suspended in mid-air at 60 mph with your sister?  Priceless.”

Granted, it started to rain around 3:30, but that was okay, since by that time we were safely ensconced in our nice covered seating (‘we’ being everyone except Ariel – see below).  I got to ride two ‘coasters – Top Gun, which I’ve ridden before and still thoroughly enjoy, and the Vortex, which was definitely… different.  When we (Ariel was with me) launched, the thought ‘Oh, crap, I’m still standing up – WAIT!’ flashed through my mind, but that was pretty much the last multi-syllabic thought I had til the end.  Barrel rolls while standing on a ‘coaster are weird, but enjoyable.  We really wanted to do the Borg Assimilator, but the line was over two hours long, so I passed on that.  Ariel, however – doggedly determined to ride before Nay-Nay – waited, cold and dripping, for two hours (huddling together with fellow liners for warmth), only to have the ride close due to technical difficulties right when she got to the shelter of the platform (about four rides away from getting on)!  Disappointed and shivering, she returned to the motorhome for much-needed Woobie time.  And dry clothes.

Funniest thing we saw on our trip – we looked out the motorhome window Sunday morning to see my dad chasing the tent, which had filled with air and was bobbing away as he tried to break it down.  I wish I had a pic to post!

Funniest encounter on our trip – the guy in the big motorhome in the neighboring site came over for advice on how to unstop his toilet, as he was new to the whole RVing thing.  Definitely a Robin Williams moment.

(Somewhat unrelated – TBear has suggested ‘ROLNTURD’ as a vanity plate for the new motorhome, having discovered via the DMV website that it is, in fact, available)
